More on the Event

Part I of this eye-opening discussion took place before a sold-out audience in October 2009. All agreed, there was a lot more to be said about how active adults are persuaded to buy.

Join us as we delve deeper into the psychology behind what influences the 50+ consumer and how you can become significantly more persuasive. Based upon more than 25 years of scientific research on the psychology of persuasion, Dr. Eric Snider will share key features of social influence strategies and how to use them in your sales and marketing efforts in today’s challenging housing market.

What is Social Media?

Last night, MiMedia attended a seminar held at the Verizon Wireless headquarter’s here in Irvine that was put together in partnership with AWT, Association for Women in Technology.  (www.awtsocal.orgAWT

The event was focused on introducing social media to your business and how to mold it according to your industry. Too often, people are using social media as an advertising tool and not as general exposure for them and their company.  Between all of the marketing engines currently out there, it makes sense for a seminar like this to bring people together from all sorts of backgrounds so that we can get a better understanding of what to do vs. what not to do.

MiMedia uses four socially-driven tools to gain exposure and attract more people to our website, in hopes of turning a prospect into a contact;

  • Facebook
  • Twitter
  • Weekly Email Campaigns/Newsletters – must be signed up for this
  • Blogging

In our industry, most of our business is driven from past events and word of mouth.  We find that we can acquire new interest online using photos and general information of the events that we do.   We also try to use our social marketing efforts to expose YOU and your company should you choose to do an event with us.  If you’ve noticed in the previous blogs we almost always write a blurb about you and your company as well as post your logo with your website link.  I like to think that people appreciate free exposure ;)

The event lastnight also gave recognition to Verizon Wireless’ HopeLine program which focuses on the awareness and prevention of domestic violence.  ‘For more than a decade, HopeLine has grown significantly and is now a multifaceted program that includes a successful phone recycling and re-use effort, financial support for local and national domestic violence organizations, community and corporate awareness programs, and partnerships with law enforcement agencies, professional sports teams, educational institutions and corporations nationwide.’  You can read more on how to contribute to this cause here.

Special thanks to the panel speakers at the event:

Kirsten Mangers, Founder & CEO, Webvisible

Tamara Devitt, Partner, Fisher & Phillips LLP

Karen Jensen, Director of Marketing, Printronix

Cara Stewart, Principal, Remarx Media

Wendy Bucknam, Public Affairs Manager, Laguna Woods Village

Carrie Yutzy, Web Producer, LegalZoom

Jared Smith, CEO, Talent Evolution

Mike Ivey nominated for Excellence in Entrepreneurship

The Orange County Business Journal is celebrating its ninth annual Excellence in Entrepreneurship Awards and Mike Ivey has been submitted for nomination!  The event is being held March 17th at the Hyatt Regency in Irvine and tickets can be purchased by emailing kennedy@ocbj.com.

Chris Trela, who is working closely with MiMedia in generating quality press kit material, has submitted a written statement documenting Mike’s business history and accomplishments.  Below is a blurb from the essay and the full articicle can be found under the Press >> Press Materials section of our website.

“I was a Jungle Cruise skipper at Disneyland—how much fun is that!” laughs MiMedia president Mike Ivey, who was born and raised in Huntington Beach. “It’s the world’s greatest training ground if you have any fear of standing in front of an audience. Try being a comedian for 10 minutes on a boat ride. You quickly get over the fear and embrace public speaking.”

Ivey has embraced a variety of activities and projects during his multifaceted career, starting with his high school years when Ivey mixed the sound for local bands. After obtaining a bank loan to buy sound gear, he got hired both for his sound engineering skills and for his DJ work.

“When the bands took a break, I’d play music,”recalls Ivey. “However, the audience liked what I did so much they didn’t want the band to come back on. That’s where the whole thing started.”

Good luck to Mike and all of the other candidates (but mostly Mike) out there who were nominated!   ;)   We will keep you posted to see if Mike qualifies after this initial round!

Social Media and Networking

Happy Friday, everyone!

I just wanted to write and let everyone know that I’ve decided to give in to the wrath of Twitter (for business purposes only) !

At one point in time, social networking just seemed to be on overload.  MySpace started it, Facebook followed it and Twitter just made me angry.  But each day I’m noticing more and more businesses engaging in the social interaction that Facebook and Twitter bring, not so much MySpace as I think that MySpace has had it’s run.

I think it will serve it’s purposes as far as networking goes and also is a fun way to keep in the loop on special behind-the-scenes sort of interaction that we might not post here on our blog or our website.

So we’re official tweeters.  Follow us at www.twitter.com/mimediaprod

We’ve been on Facebook as a page so just search for us in the toolbar as MiMedia Productions and we should pop up. Fan us.  You know you want to.

Susan G. Komen, Race for the Cure

The Komen Race for the Cure Series (www.komen.org) raises significant funds and awareness for the fight against breast cancer, celebrates breast cancer survivorship, and honors those who have lost their battle with the disease.

On November 1, nearly 14,000 runners, walkers and volunteers joined forces for the Annual Komen San Diego Race for the Cure!  MiMedia got to participate in the event by providing audio and truss structures for the stage.  We also coordinated the design of the banners to help bring the event to life.

Reaching out to the Philanthropy World

We find that we’ve been doing a lot of work with charities and other non-profit organizations lately.  It seems as though everybody is trying to do good for everybody during this downturn in the economy.  We’ve been having a blast exploring this fresh new part of the industry and encourage you to send us your RFP should you have an event coming up that requires lighting, audio, staging or video production for an organization raising awareness.

Also check out a new section in our website dedicated to these organizations.  We are happy to provide your name and listing on our website after we’ve completed an event with you and your team.
